RMB uppercase writing rules

Per the official Rules on Payment and Settlement (Annex II), RMB uppercase amounts follow these rules. This tool applies them automatically:

  1. Amounts ending at yuan take "整" (or "正") after yuan; with fen, no "整" after fen. E.g.
  2. With jiao but no fen, "整" may be omitted after jiao. E.g.
  3. Zeros inside the amount are written as "零"; consecutive zeros use a single "零". E.g.
  4. When jiao is 0 but fen is not, write "零" after yuan. E.g.
  5. On formal vouchers, the uppercase amount must be prefixed with "人民币" and written immediately after it with no gaps. E.g. Tick the option above to add it automatically.

FAQ

Why must amounts be written in Chinese uppercase?

Chinese uppercase numerals have complex strokes that leave obvious marks when altered, making tampering difficult. Checks, remittance slips and contracts require uppercase amounts under the official payment and settlement rules.

When to write 整 or 正?

Amounts ending at yuan take 整 (or 正) after yuan; with jiao but no fen, 整 may be omitted; with fen, nothing follows. This tool applies the rules automatically.

What are the rules for writing 零 (zero)?

Interior zeros are written as 零, with consecutive zeros collapsed into one: 1409.50 → 壹仟肆佰零玖元伍角, 6007.14 → 陆仟零柒元壹角肆分. When jiao is 0 but fen is not, 零 goes after yuan: 16409.02 → 壹万陆仟肆佰零玖元零贰分.

How do you write 105.30 in uppercase?

Type the number above to get the standard uppercase form instantly.

Can uppercase amounts be converted back to numbers?

Yes. Switch to the "Words → Number" tab and paste text like 壹佰陆拾捌元壹角捌分 to get 168.18. Batch line-by-line conversion is supported, along with the 人民币 prefix and 元/圆、整/正 forms.

Are my amounts uploaded or stored anywhere?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript — inputs and results are never sent to our servers, making it safe for salaries, contracts and other sensitive amounts.

How large an amount is supported?

Up to 16 integer digits (into the quadrillions) plus two decimal places (jiao, fen) — far beyond everyday invoicing needs. Clear errors are shown when exceeded.
