YouTube Thumbnail Maker

Pick a template on the 1280×720 canvas below, swap in your own background photo (or import an existing cover from a YouTube link), edit the text and drag things into place, then click “Export” to get a PNG or JPG ready to upload to YouTube. Includes outlined text with shadows, stickers and emoji, and safe-zone and timestamp guides. Free, no watermark — images are processed only in your browser and never uploaded.

Drag text or stickers to move them and drag the blue corner square to resize; drag an empty area to pan the background photo. With a layer selected, use the arrow keys to nudge, Delete to remove and Ctrl+Z to undo. You can also drop an image onto the canvas to use it as the background.

Click to apply a layout. Your background photo and stickers are kept; text is replaced with sample text you can edit.

YouTube custom thumbnails should be 1280×720 (min. width 640), JPG/PNG/GIF and under 2 MB; JPG keeps photo-based covers smaller. Guides are not included in the export.

    FAQ

What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?

YouTube recommends 1280×720 pixels (16:9) with a minimum width of 640 px, in JPG, PNG or GIF, under 2 MB. This tool’s canvas is fixed at 1280×720, so exports meet the spec.

What if my export is over 2 MB?

PNGs with photo backgrounds are often large. Switch to JPG (the default 90% quality is usually a few hundred KB); if it’s still too big, lower the quality to about 80%. Each export shows its file size.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Backgrounds, stickers and text are composed on a canvas in your browser and the export file is generated locally. 17NAS never receives your images, and everything is gone when you close the page.

How do I make thumbnail text stand out?

Keep the title to a few words, use the Impact font at 100 px or more, add a black outline (8–14 px) and a shadow, and on busy photos turn on the highlight box or darken the background by about 30%.

Why keep the bottom-right corner clear?

YouTube overlays the video length in the bottom-right corner, and the watch-progress bar appears along the bottom. Turn on “Guides” to see that area and a safe margin, and keep key text and faces inside the dashed box.

Can I use an existing YouTube video’s cover as the base?

Yes. Paste the video link under “Background” and click “Import”, or click “Make a new thumbnail from this cover” in the YouTube Thumbnail Downloader. The best available cover is chosen automatically. Only do this with videos you have the right to use.

Why does the font look different on another computer?

The tool uses your device’s system fonts (for example Segoe/Arial on Windows, San Francisco on Mac) rather than web fonts. Exported images contain the text as pixels, so they look the same everywhere once uploaded.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Phones and tablets support touch-dragging layers, adding photos from the gallery and downloading exports. On small screens the controls sit below the canvas; a computer is still easier for fine adjustments.

Is there a watermark? Can I use it commercially?

No watermark and no usage restrictions. Rights depend on the material you use: photos and logos you created or licensed are fine for commercial use.

Can I save my work and continue later?

Not at the moment. To avoid storing your images anywhere, projects aren’t saved and a refresh starts over. Export when you’re done; to revise later, load the exported image as a background and edit on top.
